Home renovation is huge, broken, and still runs on a handshake.

Dwell Cloud is building the payment-protected marketplace where homeowners post projects, verified contractors compete with real bids, and every dollar is held in milestone escrow until the work is approved. We're pre-launch and building deliberately — here's the opportunity we're going after.

A massive market failing both sides of the transaction.

Home improvement is one of the largest categories of consumer spending in North America, and it's remarkably underserved by trustworthy software. [CONFIRM: insert verified market-size figures and sources before using in any deck or public claim.]

Homeowners get burned

Deposits vanish, scopes creep, and work stalls. Hiring a contractor still runs on Googling names, chasing callbacks, and hoping the check doesn't clear on unfinished work.

Contractors bleed on lead fees

Pros pay $50–$100 per lead for phone numbers that go to voicemail, then compete on price against uninsured operators. Good businesses are punished by the current model.

No one owns the trust layer

Directories hand over a list and disappear when things go wrong. Nobody holds the money, verifies the pro, or enforces the outcome. That gap is the opportunity.

Why now.

The pieces to fix this have only recently come together. Three shifts make a trust-first renovation marketplace viable today in a way it wasn't five years ago.

  • 1

Payment infrastructure (Stripe Connect and programmatic escrow) finally makes milestone-based holds practical for small businesses.

  • 2

The trades are digitizing — contractors now run their businesses from a phone and expect software that respects their time.

  • 3

Homeowner demand for renovation stays strong, and trust in unvetted directories keeps eroding.

A model that only wins when both sides do.

One revenue line, aligned with outcomes

A flat 10% platform fee on completed milestones. We only earn when a homeowner approves finished work and a contractor gets paid — no lead fees, no subscriptions, no bid credits.

Free for homeowners, by design

Removing all homeowner cost drives the demand side of the marketplace, which pulls in verified contractors — the classic marketplace flywheel, powered by trust rather than discounts.

Expansion built in

Growth comes from more trades per project, more projects per region, and adjacencies — financing, insurance, materials — layered on a base of protected transactions.

Why this is defensible.

Hard vetting

Every contractor passes a mandatory six-point verification before their first bid. That gate is painful to fake and compounds into a supply base competitors can't cheaply match.

Escrow-enforced trust

Because we hold the money in milestone escrow, we can actually enforce dispute outcomes. That's a structural advantage directories and lead-gen platforms don't have.

Sub-trade transparency

Homeowners see the full verified team behind a general contractor's bid — the electrician, plumber, tile specialist, each with their own profile. No other platform surfaces this.

Where we are, honestly.

We're pre-launch. Rather than dress that up with vanity metrics, here's the real state of the build and the path ahead.

Now

Foundation

Brand and marketing site live. Core platform — bidding, verification, milestone escrow, and dispute flows — in active development.

Next

Pilot launch

Launch in a focused pilot market on Vancouver Island, BC, onboarding a vetted contractor base and the first real projects to prove the loop end to end.

Later

Regional expansion

Extend to additional markets across British Columbia and beyond, deepen trade coverage, and build the adjacent services that ride on protected transactions.

The team

Dwell Cloud is led by a founder who has built digital products and run operations inside the trades — the exact intersection this business lives at. Full bios, including our co-founder, are on the About page.

The raise

We're raising [CONFIRM: round type and amount] to complete the platform, launch the pilot market, and onboard the first cohort of verified contractors. Planned use of funds:

  • Product and engineering — finish and harden the core platform
  • Contractor acquisition and verification in the pilot market
  • Launch marketing to the homeowner side of the marketplace
  • Operations, support, and dispute resolution
